Carley Corporation Awarded a
Web-based Course Conversion Effort by the Library of Congress
August
19,
2002
The Library of Congress contracted with Carley
Corporation to convert modules of an existing Cataloger’s Desktop
instructor-led course into a web-based training course. This
courseware teaches how to properly use the Cataloger’s
Desktop software, a product created and sold by the Cataloging
Distribution Service (CDS) at the Library of Congress. Cataloger’s
Desktop provides access to a large number of electronic manuals
and procedural documentation that describe standards to follow
for performing cataloging and classification tasks in a library.
The product is used by staff at the Library of Congress as
well as by many library professionals and para-professionals
worldwide.
This project is being accomplished by a truly Integrated
Product Team (IPT) approach with Carley performing 2/3 of
the work and the Government performing the remaining 1/3
of the effort. The courseware contains Level II and Level
II interactivity and must be Section 508 compliant. Carley
is responsible for developing the Level III interactivity
portions while the Government is responsible for the Level
II interactivity portions. Carley is also providing technology
transfer to the Government; training their personnel how
to maintain the courseware and how to generate new Level
III scenarios in the future.
