Press Release -
Contract
to Develop School Critical Incident Planning (SCIP) Expert System
Tool Awarded to Carley Corporation
July
1, 2003
Critical incidents, including acts of terrorism, assaults, and
incidents of workplace violence can occur on school grounds with
little or no warning. Both law enforcement agencies and schools
are looking for cost-effective ways to secure resources that will
lead to improved effectiveness of School Resource Officer programs.
School Critical Incident Planning (SCIP) is designed to maximize
human survival and preservation of property, minimize danger, restore
normal operations, and ensure responsive communication between
education and public safety officials.
Carley Corporation has been contracted to develop basic instruction
and a helpful tool for School Resource Officers, Law Enforcement
Officers, and School Administrators that will position them to
plan, prepare, and respond to violent critical incidents in schools.
The courseware will contain graphics, audio, Flash animations,
and other media components. The School Critical Incident Planning
Generator (SCIP-G) will use an Expert System inference engine to
allow users to interactively create a custom response plan. The
end products will be available on the web and on a CD-ROM for distribution.
